To That Phishbowl in the Sky
By Rebecca Winters
To their parents, they always seemed aimless. But now Phishheads--those dreadlocked disciples of the jam band PHISH--really are about to lose their life's purpose. Lead singer and guitarist TREY ANASTASIO, second from left, announced on Phish's website last week that this summer's tour would be the 21-year-old band's last. "We don't want to become caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgia act," Anastasio wrote, apparently learning from Phish's forebears, the Grateful Dead, who never knew when to throw in the tie-dye. That's no consolation to fans, however, who shall weep into pints of Ben & Jerry's at Phish's last show, in August in Vermont.
