Sisqo

By Joel Stein

Sisqo, the lead singer of Dru Hill, has just released a single, The Thong Song.

Q. Were you afraid Sir Mix-A-Lot said it all with Baby Got Back?

A. I'm talking about more than just a girl's posterior. It draws a picture of a female that a lot of girls feel they are inside but may not show on the outside.

Q. You compliment a woman by saying she's "got dumps like a truck." Is that line really a good way to woo a woman?

A. In my crew, we say girls with a nice butt "have dumps." Whenever you see a dump truck, you think of a truck backing up. Everybody likes to see a girl back up.

Q. How did you cast the video?

A. Oh, man! I got four tapes of females from all different places. I would wake up every morning and look at the tapes.

Q. You think women might find this at all exploitative?

A. Nope. They love it.

Q. You ever wear a thong?

A. Nope. No thong for the kid.

Q. Would you be surprised to know that I was so excited about this interview that I'm wearing a thong right now?

A. Thongs are for the girls. You've got it all wrong. We've got things down there that don't need to be tampered with.

Q. Did you name yourself after the Internet router company or the food-service corporation?

A. Neither--it was a nickname I got because my mother is mixed. I used to get cracked on as Puerto Rican.

Q. What does the name Sisqo have to do with being Puerto Rican?

A. Nothing. In my neighborhood it sounded Puerto Rican.

Q. In your song You Are Everything, Ja Rule raps, "Every bitch needs a thug nigger in their life." Shouldn't it be "Every bitch needs a thug nigger in her life"?

A. When it comes to the rap, I go to the artist and I say, "Make it hot." So I don't even know. I don't correct the grammar.
