New Hampshire, the "Yankee Kingdom" long known for flinty independence, sounded more like an old Confederate state last Thursday when its legislature rejected a holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr., making it the only state without one. Some reasons offered: King's antiwar activities and "womanizing."
