Take the Lady, Roll Her and Run
Theft of office equipment is nothing new in Manhattan, but the latest rip-off story tears at the heart strings. Two well-dressed men walked into one of the fancier nursing homes on the Upper East Side during visiting hours and were soon afterward seen solicitously wheeling a 90-year-old woman out of the building, presumably for an afternoon airing. The bewildered lady was found sitting in her wheelchair, abandoned at a street corner, some time later. Her ostensibly helpful visitors had vanished--and so too had the electric typewriter they had apparently hidden under a blanket on her lap. At least the getaway driver and wheels were found.
