P: In Washington, the U.S. Public Health Service reported signs that the polio season has reached its peak and may be tapering off. Total cases so far this polio season: a "normal" 12,221. P: The Pentagon sent out a nationwide malaria alert to state health officers. More than 800 soldiers returning from Korea have been found to have active malaria parasites in their blood; home-grown Anopheles mosquitoes can spread the infection. Danger zones: Georgia (237 active cases), Oklahoma (101), Kentucky (97), Colorado (65), Wisconsin (60). P: The A.M.A. proudly reported a total of 26,191 potential doctors enrolled in 79 U.S. medical schools last year, a 22.5% increase over prewar.
