Work Done. The Senate of the U. S. last week:
P:Passed (65 to 18), after hot debate, a bill to stiffen prohibition violation penalties (see p. 14).
P:Passed a $360,000,000 naval appropriation bill, carrying $12,370,000 for cruiser construction this year and next; adopted an amendment (38 to 30) for recall of U. S. Marines in Nicaragua, then rejected it (48 to 32).
P:Adopted the House's resolution for an investigation of U. S. District Judge Francis Asbury Winslow of Manhattan.
P:Passed the $18,000,000 appropriation bill to pay expenses of Congress.
P:Passed bills creating seven new Federal judgeships, four in New York, one in South Carolina, one in Pennsylvania, one in South Dakota.
P:Confirmed Finis James Garrett (TIME, Feb. 25) as Judge of U. S. Court of Customs Appeals; held up nominations of Irving Luther Lenroot as Customs Appeals Judge and Henry H. Glassie as Justice of the District of Columbia Supreme Court.
P:Passed Senator Edge's resolution authorizing $15,000 for a new survey of the interoceanic canal route across Nicaragua.
