In Manhattan, a Commonwealth Opera Association met to promote popular-priced performances through dollar membership subscriptions. Music in Manhattan now, complained Charles Edward Russell of the Association's advisory board, is "standardized, systematized, somewhat trustified and the exclusive possession of the economically fortunate."
