Evangelists of the Methodist Episcopal Church South lamented last week that they had no jobs. Said Rev. John Patty of Chattanooga, addressing the convention of evangelists at Memphis: "Unemployment . . . has reached serious proportions and something must be done to enlist the sympathy of the . . . ministers, to open the doors of the churches to us."

Rapid increase in Negro churches throughout the north during the last ten years was shown by a bulletin of the Census Bureau last week. The report states that there were 42,585 Negro churches in the U. S. in 1926, with a membership of 5,203,487.
