Smart Geologists

In Switzerland, last week, there was a sudden muffled roar in the Arbedo Valley. The tip of Monte Arbino, 9,000 feet above the level of the sea, was seen to quiver. One rock, then another, bounced and skidded down the mountain's side. Finally the whole peak slid clumsily into the surrounding valley. A huge cloud of dust spouted upward, for several days hung heavily over the scene of the avalanche.

No lives were lost because smart Swiss geologists had predicted the landslide, and warned all inhabitants to leave the vicinity.
