New Pictures
Behind the Front. A burlesque war picture seems slender stuff after The Big Parade. If that homeric comedy had not been made, Behind the Front would probably be called a fairly funny slapstick show with Wallace Beery principally concerned.
The Grand Duchess and the Waiter. Adolph Menjou is occupied in an unusually successful light comedy of Continental manners. The Duchess is broke in Paris. The waiter is a nobleman in disguise. How they found each other out is deft and feathery and excellent amusement.
What Happened to Jones. Most of it happened in a Turkish bath on ladies' night. It was also the night before Mr. Jones' wedding. With Reginald Denny and pretty funny.
Moana. A sort of travelog without a story, telling of life as it is really lived in the South Seas, not omitting the pains of becoming beautifully tattooed, or the little maid who scoops small fishes out of the sea and eats them while she chatters. Robert J. Flaherty, who did Nanook of the North, is the director.
