New Pictures
The Yankee Senor. Tom Mix in a society drama of the hacienda country is something of a novelty. There is virtually no hard riding, shooting or sign of the usual avalanche. Mr. Mix is pursued by a Senorita who does not like the Boston girl, who in turn is after the hacienda. Spain defeats Boston in an eminently agreeable comedy.
The American Venus. Fay Lanphie, the girl who won that national beauty contest last summer, is in a film about beauty contests. No doubt thousands will flock to see her. They will find Miss Lanphier inefficient and The American Venus cheap.
The Skyrocket. Peggy Hopkins Joyce, whose many marriages have made her famous, is the star of this, and not bad either. It is a slender story about an extra girl in Hollywood, in which the Cinderella influence is pronounced. You can get along without it; but if you cannot you will find it better than the average.
