In London, the Royal Philharmonic Society gave its first concert of the .season. Wilhelm Furtwaengler, famed German who will fill a guest engagement with the New York Philharmonic this year (TIME, Dec. 8), was the conductor. Old is the Royal Philharmonic Society. When it opened its season 100 years ago, Beethoven's Piano Concerto in C Minor was played for the first time in England.
