A Check
The progress of negotiations between France and Britain, outlined a week ago was checked by the war cloud in the south of Europe. Negotiations will continue as soon as practicable, and semiofficial information has it that an agreement between the Allies is certain and that the U. S. and Germany will be invited to participate in a conference on reparations to be held this Fall. It is understood that the German Chancellor, Stresemann, has consented to renounce passive resistance in return for Allied assurances that the Ruhr occupation will be " profoundly modified."
