Pro Patria
Filled with the greatest concern over the declining birth rate, the Chamber of Deputies is considering a bill to remove all restrictions regarding the remarriage of divorced couples.
Under the Napoleonic Code a person who has been divorced, remarried and again become single, cannot remarry his or her first wife or husband. This is popularly attributed to a whim of one of Buonaparte's Ministers whose mistress decided she loved her divorced husband better than him.
The Chamber is of the opinion that every interference with " real marriage" must be abolished in the interest of the State.
